PISCES II is a well equipped and safe sea going vessel fully licensed and approved by the Dept of Marine and M.C.A. to carry 11 passengers.
PISCES Charter is a family run business and is well established on both sides of Carlingford Lough.
Sea angling trips can be arranged for parties or individuals and all rods and tackle can be provided if required. Tuition will also be provided for the first timer ‘give it a go’ customer. Species such as mackerel, cod, pollock, ling amongst others can be caught but the prime species on the Lough is the fast, hard fighting tope which is a member of the shark family.
Angling trips can be tailored to suit the customer, should it be a long or short trip.
Sightseeing cruises are also provided on the Lough and the PISCES II is navigated close to the islands to view and photograph the seals and marine wildlife.
Cruises also include the Haulbowline Lighthouse as it stands proudly at the entrance to the Lough. Cruises and angling trips can be arranged for all occasions although hen and stag parties are very popular.
Skipper and owner of PISCES II is Peyon Cunningham, a commercial fisherman all his life with a vast knowledge of where to fish and what is likely to be caught.
Indeed it was with this in mind when SKY TV decided to bring Paul Young from ‘Hooked on Fishing’ and the camera crew for a trip on the Lough that Peyton was the man for the job. He certainly delivered the goods and a most successful and enjoyable days fishing was broadcast world wide.
Peyton is a keen angler and when he is not attending to the passengers he will slip a line over board and try for himself!

Walking in Carlingford

Spring is the perfect time to get out and be active. The Cooley Peninsula is the perfect location to discover the outdoors on foot with fabulous scenery and walks for all abilities. Three new looped walks have been launched recently. The new looped walks are : Common's Loop, Slieve Foye Loop and Barnavave Loop, these walks are all located in Medieval Carlingford and the Cooley Peninsula and they offer walkers the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular surroundings and natural beauty. These loops are designed to suit average levels of fitness and are well serviced, catering for the occasional and leisure walker. The routes will give walkers a taste of Irish folklore as they pass the resting place of Fionn MacCool - Slieve Foye - and the battle ground in Cooley where Cuchulain defended Ulster against the armies of Queen Meabh of Connaught. Look out for the Walkers Welcome sign in accommodation premises.

Note for Walkers
Farmers who have grazing rights on Annaverna, Ballymakellett and Doolargy mountains on the western side of the Cooley Mountains met recently with hill walkers, cyclists and the local National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) Ranger to highlight their frustration with dogs, motorbikes and quad bikes disturbing sheep. The NPWS Ranger explained that most of this area is designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) to protect flora and fauna. New regulations were introduced in 2010 banning the use of off road vehicles on the SAC due to the damage they cause.
People who visit the Ravensdale are for recreation are asked not to bring dogs (even on a lead) onto the hills, to close gates, respect property and to minimise the impact of their activities on farmer's livelihoods. Sheep when pregnant are very vulnerable if chased or worried by dogs. The presence of a dog, even on a lead, can be distressing to sheep. Farmers are entitled to shoot any dog that worries their livestock.

Spring is the perfect time to get out and be active. The Cooley Peninsula is the perfect location to discover the outdoors on foot with fabulous scenery and walks for all abilities. Three new looped walks have been launched recently. The new looped walks are : Common's Loop, Slieve Foye Loop and Barnavave Loop, these walks are all located in Medieval Carlingford and the Cooley Peninsula and they offer walkers the opportunity to enjoy the spectacular surroundings and natural beauty. These loops are designed to suit average levels of fitness and are well serviced, catering for the occasional and leisure walker. The routes will give walkers a taste of Irish folklore as they pass the resting place of Fionn MacCool - Slieve Foye - and the battle ground in Cooley where Cuchulain defended Ulster against the armies of Queen Meabh of Connaught. Look out for the Walkers Welcome sign in accommodation premises.

Note for Walkers
Farmers who have grazing rights on Annaverna, Ballymakellett and Doolargy mountains on the western side of the Cooley Mountains met recently with hill walkers, cyclists and the local National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) Ranger to highlight their frustration with dogs, motorbikes and quad bikes disturbing sheep. The NPWS Ranger explained that most of this area is designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) to protect flora and fauna. New regulations were introduced in 2010 banning the use of off road vehicles on the SAC due to the damage they cause.
People who visit the Ravensdale are for recreation are asked not to bring dogs (even on a lead) onto the hills, to close gates, respect property and to minimise the impact of their activities on farmer's livelihoods. Sheep when pregnant are very vulnerable if chased or worried by dogs. The presence of a dog, even on a lead, can be distressing to sheep. Farmers are entitled to shoot any dog that worries their livestock.

It can be an overwhelming experience to plan the perfect hen night. Everyone has high expectations for this big event and you want to make sure the Brides Hen is everything she expects and more.
Not only is it hard to plan the perfect event, but you also have the worry and stress that you have included everyone on the invite list, get value for money and an affordable package to suit your hens, transport, Entertainment which will be right for everyone in attendance.. The list goes on…

There is no definitive guide on how to carry a hen weekend off with perfection, but here are a few rules and guidelines to get you started.

This increasingly familiar pattern, also duplicated with stag nights these days, includes the prospective in-laws' relevant members being invited to proceedings, usually with the bride's secret hope that they can't actually come so that she can totally enjoy herself without being on her best behaviour but will still look a great daughter-in-law for having offered in the first place! Sometimes includes oddballs and space cadets who are long-time friends of someone on the 'definites' list, and thereby have to be invited.

Occasionally, the bride in question may have a couple of names who would one day have made the 'Have To's' list, but now, for reasons she would prefer not to mention are definely not welcome to the party.
2. Where
The bride will doubtless have pencilled down a shortlist of possible locations, though she probably won't care as long as it meets all her requirements. This is where your real work begins, for the venue has to be somewhere that will be easy enough for everyone to get to without it being somewhere they've all been plenty of times before; somewhere that is an exciting prospect, but not so far that the travel costs put people off; somewhere that is original and memorable but isn't going to be jam-packed with other hen parties doing exactly the same thing.
At this point, whilst deciding on where you want to base the fun and frolics, you will also need to know what approximate budget everyone is looking towards. It is no use going off and doing loads of research on a crammed itinerary in Newcastle if the cost per person doubles that of what most guests can afford. As the coordinator, you have to disprove the famous adage and keep all of the people happy absolutely all of the time.
3. When
This will be closely linked with your decision on where to go. Where the guests themselves live, what time each person can get to the hotel on the Friday, what time they each need to get back on the Sunday, etc. Ideally your journey should not be more than a 2 hour drive, we you want to make the most of your weekend and have fun, not spend hours travelling to the destinations and getting home.
4. What To Do
A massive part of the success of your weekend will be not so much where you are as what you do. Commonly, the bride will suggest one or two things that she's heard about or had recommended, but apart from that the itinerary will be in your hands. Naturally, you want a Good Hotel offering Leisure Facilities and nightlife close by and a sit-down meal while you're there, but you might be asked to sort out anything from a day's Pampering to some karting too. As with the choice of dates, try to dissuade the bride from being too specific, just in case her original preference of Rally Karts, Medieval Banquet and Horse Riding hits an availability snag!
Try to imagine what cocktail of events will most suit and please the spread of guests likely to attend - would everyone really go for Quad Biking over a visit to a Spa? - and also consider that you need to hit the middle ground between not having enough to do and having too regimented a line-up. Easy? Yeah, right.
On a serious note, we would recommend that hen parties do not partake in Paintballing if you don't want bruises for the big day (this can also apply to Clay Pigeon Shooting if you're planning on wearing a short sleeved dress on the wedding day).
Finally, the weekend can always have a theme too, should the lady of the hour so desire.

A Taste of Carlingford - A Taste of the Four Seasons Hotel !
The Taste of Carlingford this weekend!
The delicious Taste of Carlingford festival is happening this Sat 14th, Sun 15th & Mon 16th May.
Friday night will kick off the celebrations of culture and cuisine with a 100 meals giveaway! The Four Seasons Hotel gave away 10 Dinner Vouchers on the Regional Radio LMFM and many other Restaurant will participate !
Over the Saturday and Sunday, the festival will offer an opportunity to sample local produce served in the destination that has become well known for its dining out. Amidst the street music, you are invited to each eaterie as they emerge onto the streets to welcome you to taste their fare.
In contrast to the contemporary approach of the gastronomic servings, the family orientated activities remain traditional. The childrens Crab Fishing competition, offering a prize for the ugliest crab, Pretty Pets Show sponsored by Avenue Vetenary and The Children’s Treasure Hunt are all organised to entertain the little people and we don’t mean leprechauns this time!
The experienced archaeologist guides from Setanta Tours will lead the poplar Maeves Gap Historical Walk and Carlingford Walking Tours will be offering guided walks around the historical town. For those that have never tried the watersports in Carlingford Lough – make sure and grab the opportunity during the festival as Carlingford Adventure Centre will be offering free kayaking in the Harbour on Sunday.
The famous Belfast Continental Market will be participating in the festival adding an intercultural flavour to the festivities. With a colourful display of food and crafts including Peruvian knitwear, Italian stalls selling Biscotti, mini Italian cakes and Italian soft nougat. French and continental cheeses will neighbour a traditional German schwenkgrille stall selling giant bratwurst. The market will also feature one of the best travelling Breton Patisseries selling homemade French tarts baked regularly throughout the day. Positioned in the heart of the quaint medieval village near to the Tourist Information office, it will be open from 9am to 5.30pm on both days, Sunday & Monday.
‘It is nice to spread the festival into the Monday as it gives locals a chance to browse and enjoy the festive atmosphere comfortably. Our festivals tend to attract a tremendous amount of visitors and are very important to us and our local economy. But its nice when the local community get an opportunity to enjoy our festivals too’.
